The city of Elgin lies some seventeen miles to the north, the towns of Keith and Huntly lie approximately ten miles away and the area is served by a regular and plentiful bus service.

Dufftown is the central point on the whisky trail around the glens of Speyside and is extremely popular with tourists and day-trippers. The town is the biggest exporter of whisky in Britain and there are still many working distilleries in the town, including The Balvenie and The Glenfiddich (Glenfiddich being the largest of them all). There is a Whisky Museum situated in the town explaining the history of whisky making and the town is the central point for the Speyside Whisky Festival, held twice a year and is a must for enthusiasts and whisky afficiandos the world over.
